New hero; Alan Watts
This is superb. Must find out more about this Alan Watts character… I’ve been interested in the whole eastern religion thing for a while without really doing much about it. I’ve read a few books (Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, The tao of physics, Watching the tree…) but not enough to really know what I’m talking about. Buddhism seems pretty cool, except that, somehow, if you’re a “westerner” saying that you are a Buddhist seems to make you look like a prick to other people… Oh well…
Geek level up!
So I’ve decided to learn Python. Why? because I can. And because I want to make a program that can calculate digits of pi and then analyse the relative frequency of various digits. Possibly in various counting bases (binary hex etc) I’ve got as far a writing a program that asks for a number of sides and a length and computes the circumference of the shape, and tells you what shape it is (up to dodecagon).
I feel I am increasing my maths geek and computer nerd levels at the same time. Score!
In other news, I am going on holiday tomorrow, which sort of scuppers my plans of learning Python. But I will be back beginning of August and I will get cracking then.
Here is the code for my program, if anyone is terribly desperate for crap Python code…
What if…
You know that thing about how California would be one of the richest countries in the world or something. If California was a country. Well, I was wondering what would happen if the U.S. just suddenly stopped being there. If all 50 states simultaneously decided to go it alone. Obviously California and New York would win out because they have loads of money and I imagine the rural states middle America states would probably be worse off… I might be totally wrong, but my excuse is I have no idea…
In other news I made a CafePress shop, but it’s a bit shit at the moment…
Cinema etc?
We went to the Sneak Preview tonight, where they show a film that isn’t out yet, but don’t tell you what it is going to be. I thought it might be Harry Potter, Transformers or The Simpsons Movie. All of which would have been acceptable. Instead it was Interview. I was a little disappointed at first (I was looking forward to some optimus action) but it turned out to be a pretty good film, so that was ok.
Nathan Barley is funny.
I am sick of this kung fu shit.
I had to restart Oblivion (again) because It turns out that some stupid bug means I couldn’t get any further in one of the quest-lines. Grr. Put me in a bad mood all day, that did. Still I’m happy now. Meant I could make my character again and fiddle a little bit. Marvelous.
Die Hard 4.0 is everything that I hoped it would be; ridiculous, explosive, fun, pretty mindless… He throws a CAR at a HELICOPTER! And that Jet pilot must have nerves of steel, hovering between the lanes of the motoway like that. Crazy. Still, it was a lot of fun…
Why isn’t there a preview feature in WordPress? Or is there one and I’m missing it?
I wish I had kept up with Rome. The first episode was great. Oh well. I’m sure there are other ways of watching it… I watched all of the last season, eventually. It was a lot of fun. A bit of learning about Rome, a bit of violence, a bit of nudity, more violence… It had everything you could want from a TV show…
I don’t understand the “more” tags. I am going to experiment.
My room is messy because Cyrodil is a nicer place to be than Luxembourg
So I’m listening to lullabies to paralyse at the moment. It’s pretty good. Haven’t heard it in a while. Never liked it as much as songs for the deaf, but I didn’t listen to it half as much, so I am giving it another chance.
Saw Shrek 3 a couple of days ago. Wasn’t as disappointed and some people seem to have been by it. It had some funny moments. Going to see Die Hard 4.0 tonight. I am really hoping that it is amazing. It really should be.
I have an English version of Oblivion now. So I’ve been playing that pretty much all the time. I should probably unpack at some stage, but I can’t be bothered. There’s nowhere to put all my stuff. Basically, my stuff to space ratio is above one, so I can’t fit it all in. It’s just in loads of boxes scattered around my room. I will be taking some of the junk back to England in September, which makes me even less inclined to find places to put it all away now…
I should really finish that Jabberwocky thing I started, but I’m too busy killing orcs and whatnot in Oblivion most of the time. Sigh. I really am a sad bastard sometimes…
